Summary

The first international educational meeting titled “Hematologic Malignancies: Bridging the Gap 2010” will be held in Singapore City, Singapore from February 5 to 7, 2010. The congress brings together leading authorities in hematology to present the latest ground breaking findings on cutting edge research and novel treatments. The discussion forums provide an opportunity to integrate the latest pharmaceutical interventions. This conference targets hematologic malignancies in particular leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. The target audience is southeast and central Asia, Japan, Australia as well as the United States.

Overview

Cancer is a leading cause of death in central and Southeast Asia. Hematologic malignancies are an increasing subset of the total cancer incidence rate. In the recent years great improvement in the field of oncology care has taken place with a rapid growth in the number of trained oncologists as well as well equipped cancer centers. However, since the Asian healthcare community is geographically dispersed it is characterized by lack of standardization of treatment regimens and different philosophies of care. Given the fragmented oncology market in south central Asia, there is significant need to homogenize and integrate conceptual knowledge, disease understanding, therapeutic agent intervention, supportive care, and management of complications.

A wide reaching platform for discussing stronger ties between practitioners and researchers from different countries would help improve efforts to more efficiently implement these advancements in daily clinical practice. This would in turn improve overall quality of cancer treatment, especially in countries that do not have guaranteed access to the latest breakthroughs.

The main objective of this proposed congress is to educate the practicing oncologists, conduct open forum for case discussions and provide a platform for the delegates to discuss their day-to-day challenges regarding patient treatment. This conference will basically forge stronger and more effective lines of communication between Eastern and Western cancer care in a fashion that will yield significant benefits to patients, doctors, and pharmaceutical companies.

Our ultimate goal is to help improve the quality of patient care, set standards of clinical competence for oncology practice and encourage the continuing scholarship required for professional excellence over a lifetime of service.

This Congress will be an important step towards implementing a new standard of care and uniformity of knowledge, by bringing top experts in the field to Asia. It will bring dividends to cancer patients, physicians and future practitioners.

Objectives

  1. Identify the existing need for the current medical education of the practicing hematologists within an Asian perspective, and build sessions to address the key areas of need.
  2. Help establish a means for promoting increased awareness, knowledge and improved practice in the field of malignant hematology in the Asian sector.
  3. Encourage and provide opportunity for clinical research in the field of malignant hematology.

Bridging The Gap - 2010

This congress will be an exciting, productive, interactive and educational experience for the attendees. Top researchers and practitioners from the world over will meet to discuss the current state – and future directions – of Hematologic Malignancies in the Asian sector and explore opportunities for joining hands with the West in order to further the field. The event promises to be a unique medical education forum for the exchange of critical information as well as analyze the challenges faced by the practicing clinicians. It will feature didactic presentations and debates, in which experts will discuss some of the most challenging topics in leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, lymphoma and myeloma, providing a thorough analysis of research breakthroughs and emerging data.

Target Audience

This conference is specifically designed for Hematologists, Oncologists, Transplant Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, physicians in training, and healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, etc) involved in and/or interested in hematologic malignancies and their management. Attendees are expected to be from USA, Singapore, India, China, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.
